I'm hijacking my own thread from this post on to discuss nullbastion.net and make it actually about something. Some form of IM is sure to return, but I've never really liked the options out there. That aside, mumble might also make a return but its worts make me reconsider. All in all reshaping and figuring out what I want nullbastion.net to be to the umpteenth time will prove interesting.

Removing visible ranks and there most likely wont be many (if any) ranks in the backend entirely. I don't like the idea of users being put on different pedestals outside of being invited in the first place, and that includes myself. Its so weird to have an admin label of any kind next to me. Feels megalomaniacal, cold, corporate.

thinking about IRC again but using The Lounge as a front end / bouncer / media manager, IRC has always been rough, even when we tried IRCv3 for me at least, but The Lounge seems like a possible solution to the challenges we've had with it only downside being a webapp, and not having a native mobile client instead relying on being a PWA

rightfully assuming this is just us larping I wouldn't mind, taking it further we could just setup an IM exclusively for ourselves and keep nb as a whole without one at least for now

Either way if I'm able I'll probably put some more investment into nb soon:tm:. Depending on what other services I want to include I might look into LDAP again, same creds across services and not needing to sign up is cool. Also I want to setup an internal email again, I like it for the forums, I like email itself, and it would integrate well with LDAP
